GNU EMACS FOR OPENVMS VAX -- SOURCE KIT (19.28, 21.2 AND 22.3)
================================================================
Douglas P. Fields, Jr. <symbolics@lisp.engineer> 21 October 2026

Matches the binary kit of the same day (R31,
emacs-19.28-21.2-22.3-openvms-vax-binary-kit-20261021.zip). 19.28 and
21.2 are unchanged since the 10-OCT kit; 22.3 is vax/22.3 4ce5f7e (since
the 17-OCT kit: the first use of the common commands preloaded -- DCL
mode, help, shell, dired, diff --; every C-x C-f quicker because the
version-control back ends, none of which works on VMS, are no longer
asked about each file; M-x grep without a 2.5 second wait), so five of
these six archives are the 17-OCT (R27) source kit's, byte for byte, and
the 22.3 one is new.

The three unmodified upstream archives carry their original authors' own
addresses in their own file headers (GPL source, third-party, not touched
here). The three `vax/*` archives are the complete corresponding source
for this kit's binaries -- not a diff -- built with `git archive`, so
every file, including ones the VAX patches never touched, is exactly as
it was compiled. `SHA256SUMS.TXT` covers every file in this directory.

Credit where it is due: Richard Levitte (the 19.28 VMS port), Thien-Thi
Nguyen (the 21.2 VMS port), Eric Brown (the OpenVMS x86-64 ports of 21.2
and 22.3, from which our 21.2 and 22.3 are derived), and the AI tooling
that did much of this work under the operator's direction: Claude Code
and the Claude models (Anthropic).

See the parent kit's README.TXT sections 6-7 for what changed and why,
and how to rebuild from any of the three branches.
