SOURCES.TXT -- provenance of what is in the XLISP kit
=====================================================
Kit built 14-OCT-2026 by Douglas P. Fields, Jr. (symbolics@lisp.engineer).

1. XLISP-PLUS 3.05 (program XLISP.EXE)
Author: Tom Almy (home page https://almy.us/xlisp.html), based on XLISP 2.1 by
   David Betz. Downloaded 14-OCT-2026 22:32 UTC from https://almy.us/files/ :

xl305src.zip supplies the C sources (its "sources" folder); xl305req.zip the Lisp
library (lsp/*.lsp, including INIT.LSP); xl305doc.zip the text documentation (the
text files under "Obsolete" and readme.upd are in the kit's [.DOC]; the Word and
PDF manuals are only in the download folder of the blog post).

Changes made for OpenVMS VAX (all kept as separate files, see PATCHES below):
   * vmsstuff.c NEW the system module (no Unix termio; line-mode terminal, SYSTEM via
system(), Ctrl/C via SIGINT, VMS file names, PATHNAMES = logical XLPATH)
   * xlisp.h +36 lines: an #ifdef XLVMS block modelled on the UNIX one
   * osdefs.h, osptrs.h one line each: no GET-KEY (needs raw tty) on XLVMS
   * BUILD_XLISP.COM NEW CC/LINK procedure (replaces the Unix makefiles)
The upstream files have CR LF line ends; they were converted to LF (tr -d '\r') before
patching, with no other change. Unix modules (unixstuf.c, unixprim.c) are not used.

2. XLISP 1.4 (program XLISP14.EXE)
Author: David Betz, 1-JAN-1985 (VAX/VMS port by the DECUS contributors), from DECUS
VAX85A, directory xlisp (files xl*.c, xlisp.h, *.lsp, xlisp.doc), archive taken from
the lab's DECUS CD library ~/VAX/digiater-decus/vax85a/xlisp/ . Compiled UNCHANGED with
DEC C /STANDARD=VAXC; only our BUILD_XLISP14.COM replaces the supplied XLISPBLD.COM.
(The supplied 1985 prebuilt XLISP.EXE is not in the kit.)
